The event organized by the Health Innovation Hub at the end of June marked, on one hand, the launch of Romania’s Strategic Plan in the field of Clinical Trials, and on the other, the expansion of the Hub through the signing of Collaboration Agreements with two new partners: the National Society of Medical Oncology of Romania (SNOMR) and Novo Nordisk Romania.

Prof. Dr. Laura Mazilu, Vice President of SNOMR, emphasized: “I am honored to represent the National Society of Medical Oncology of Romania (SNOMR) in the Health Innovation Hub—an initiative of great importance for oncology in Romania. Medical societies play a crucial role in promoting medical research, and with SNOMR joining, we complement the Hub’s expertise with a strong medical component. Clinical trials are an indispensable element for keeping pace with innovation and medical research, and we are pleased that they are recognized as a strategic pillar within the Health Innovation Hub.”

During the event, Cecilia Radu, VP & General Manager of Novo Nordisk Romania, stated: “We are honored that Novo Nordisk Romania has joined the Health Innovation Hub—a project aimed at developing research and innovation capacity for the entire healthcare sector through Romania’s Strategic Plan in the field of Clinical Trials.”

Novo Nordisk is a company founded more than 100 years ago out of the founders’ love for science and people—August and Marie Krogh—and research and development efforts have always been, and continue to be, the future of our company. Between 2019 and 2023, in more than 60 countries, the number of patients enrolled in clinical trials conducted by Novo Nordisk increased 2.5 times. For over 30 years, ever since the company established its presence here, Romania has been one of those countries.

“Joining the Health Innovation Hub marks an important step in our mission to create change in the lives of Romanian patients diagnosed with chronic diseases, and we look forward to contributing to the efforts to transform Romania into a competitive, investment-attractive country and to building a healthier society together.”

Romania’s Strategic Plan for the Development of Clinical Trials in the Field of Human Medicines calls for the implementation of a competitive model for clinical trials by continuing and strengthening the efforts already made in this area. Currently, more than 400 clinical trials are underway in Romania, and tripling the number of trials conducted would position the country in the top half of the EU rankings.
