This year’s edition of the Clinical Trials Symposium provided a multidisciplinary platform for the clinical research community, bringing together representatives from academia, regulatory agencies, the clinical trial management industry, the innovative pharmaceutical industry, investigators, and clinical research entities to discuss visionary progress achieved and development opportunities in this field.

During the event, Frank Loeffler, Vice President of LAWG, stated: “Romania’s progress in recent years in the field of clinical trials is truly remarkable and sets the stage for increasing the country’s competitiveness internationally. These advancements are also due to the efforts of the Health Innovation Hub, which was built on partnerships with all relevant stakeholders. Moving forward, it is important to view Romania and Europe within the global context of clinical trial attractiveness, and in this regard, we must increase predictability and accelerate access to innovation for all patients, bringing Romania closer to the average of other countries. Furthermore, the Research and Development Institute in Genomics can make a unique contribution by accelerating the integration of genomic and health data into applied research, strengthening Romania’s image and prestige in the field of medical research.”

The Health Innovation Hub already brings together the active stakeholders in Romania’s clinical trials ecosystem and contributes to the development of this sector. Attending the event, Dr. Teodor Blidaru, Manager of the Hub, stated: “Following the development of the National Plan for Clinical Trials, it is important in the coming years to focus on its implementation as a collaborative effort of the entire clinical research ecosystem. The Plan and the years ahead give us the opportunity not only to make progress on measurable indicators—such as increasing the number of trials or patients involved—but also to prepare our research infrastructure, processes, professionals, and overall approach for future challenges in an increasingly competitive global environment in this field.”

Implementing a competitive model for clinical trials in Romania—by continuing and strengthening the efforts already made in this field—creates the opportunity to connect Romania to international medical research, increase patient access to innovative treatments, attract foreign investment, support the retention of medical personnel, foster technology transfer, generate new jobs, and boost state budget revenues.
